The Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry is a community program that helps bring residents and business owners together to keep our neighbourhoods safe.

By joining, you can let us know if you have external security cameras at your home or business. The program is completely free and voluntary. If an incident happens in your area, officers may reach out to you to see if your cameras may have captured helpful footage—saving valuable time and helping us keep the community safe.

No. The police will not have access to your camera feed. You are registering that you have an external security camera and would be willing to share video footage in the event of an incident in your area.

The information you provide will be stored inside the Safe Neighborhood Camera Registry (SNCR) and is stored for the sole purpose of the Saint John Police to assist in investigations. No other police agency has access to this information, and your information will remain confidential.
If your video footage is used in court, police must disclose who it was received from and where it was obtained. But you will not be required to testify as you provided video footage but did not witness the incident. The police would receive the video footage, provide continuity of the exhibit, and present the evidence in court.
