Arrest in Aggravated Assault – Waterloo Street

The Saint John Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with an attempted murder investigation.

It is alleged that:

On Monday, July 22, 2024, at approximately 7:26 a.m., a 73-year-old man was allegedly assaulted outside a business in the 40-block of Waterloo Street.

On arrival, emergency crews located the 73-year-old man unresponsive on the ground. He was transported to the hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers arrested a 37-year-old man at the scene. He appeared in court on Monday, July 22, 2024, and was remanded to jail. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, threats (X2), and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to return to court on August 6, 2024.

The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate. Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area that has video footage or surveillance of the incident at the time it occurred.
