(UPDATE) Arrest in Aggravated Assault leads to Manslaughter charge

On Saturday, October 14, 2023, 34-year-old Robert Crossman died in hospital.

As a result of his death, on Monday, October 16, 2023, the 30-year-old accused appeared in court and was charged with manslaughter.  The previous charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn. The accused is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, October 19, 2023, for election and plea.

The Saint John Police sends our condolences to the family and friends of Robert Crossman at this most difficult time.


The Saint John Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman in connection with an aggravated assault.

It is reported that:

On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at approximately 9:24 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call that a man had been stabbed in the 90-block of Mecklenburg Street.

On arrival, officers located a 34-year-old man injured inside an apartment. The man was transported to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

A 30-year-old woman, who was known to the injured man, was arrested at the scene.

On Thursday, October 5, 2023, the accused appeared in court charged with aggravated assault. She was held in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, for a bail hearing.

The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate.
