Arrest in Assault Investigation

The Saint John Police have arrested a 40-year-old man following an alleged assault with a weapon.

It is reported that:

On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at approximately 10:51 p.m., the Saint John Police responded to an alleged stabbing in the area of Waterloo Street.

Police arrived on scene and located a 36-year-old man with injuries to his head and neck. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

It was alleged that the complainant had been assaulted by a man known to him who was armed with a knife.

The police subsequently arrested a 40-year-old man at a nearby apartment.

On April 20, 2023, the accused appeared in court charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and uttering threats.

The accused was remanded to custody and is scheduled to return to court on May 15, 2023, for a bail hearing.
