Arrest in Murder Investigation – King Street East

The Saint John Police have arrested a 31-year-old man following an early morning murder on King Street East in Saint John.

It is reported that:

On Sunday, August 20, 2023, at approximately 5:39 a.m., police responded to a report that someone had allegedly been shot in an apartment in the 100-block of King Street East.

On arrival, police secured the area and located a 38-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene. A 31-year-old suspect, who was known to the deceased, had allegedly fled the scene before police arrived.

The Major Crime Unit, Forensic Services, Emergency Tactical Services, and the Street Crime Integrated Enforcement Unit were called in to investigate and search for the suspect.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., Emergency Tactical Services conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Main Street North and took the suspect into custody without incident.

The 31-year-old accused is expected to appear in court on Monday, August 21, 2023.

Detectives continue to gather evidence, including canvassing for witnesses and video surveillance in the 100-block of King Street East.
