The Saint John Police have arrested a 22-year-old male following a traffic stop for impaired driving and driving without due care and attention.

It is reported that:

On July 12, 2026, at approximately 4:42 p.m., police had blocked both ends of the road due to a fire scene on Westfield Road, to ensure that emergency crews could safely do their work. A passenger vehicle, at a high rate of speed, entered the blocked area, nearly struck the parked police vehicle and fire trucks operating at the scene.

Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle and investigated.

As a result, the 22-year-old male driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. His driver’s licence was suspended for three months, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. He was also issued multiple violations under the Motor Vehicle Act of New Brunswick.

Saint John Police continue to remind motorists to obey road closures and exercise caution around emergency scenes to help protect first responders and the public.

Together a safe, secure, healthy community
