File: 23-2317

The Saint John Police have arrested two individuals after they fled in a vehicle being stopped by police.

It is reported that:

On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at approximately 7:35 a.m., an officer was conducting radar on Bayside Drive.

The officer observed a violation and attempted to stop a blue Chevrolet Aveo in the area of the one-mile interchange. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer.

The officer did not pursue the vehicle because it was approaching a busy intersection. The vehicle then failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Seeley Street and Mount Pleasant Avenue.

Following a search of the area, the police located the vehicle abandoned on Wright Street. Officers subsequently searched a nearby apartment and located the occupants of the vehicle hiding in a closet.

The 22-year-old driver appeared in court on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, charged with flight from police, driving while prohibited, and breach of a probation order. He is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, April 20, 2023, for a bail hearing.

The 20-year-old passenger was arrested for theft and obstruction. She was released from custody on an undertaking to return to court on July 18, 2023.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The Saint John Police Force would like to thank the public for their assistance.
