The Saint John Police Force will be conducting a Back-to-School Safety Campaign from September 8 to 11, 2026. With children returning to school and increased activity on our roads, drivers are reminded of the importance of remaining vigilant and prioritizing road safety.
Through a combination of education and enforcement, our Quick Reaction Team and Traffic Management Officers will focus on school zones and bus routes where driving offences pose a risk to students, pedestrians, and other road users.
In addition to this campaign, the Saint John Police Force will continue its School Zone Safety Program for the 2026-2027 school year. The program is aimed at enhancing the safety of students whether they are walking, cycling, or being driven to and from school through ongoing enforcement, education, and increased awareness of traffic safety in and around school zones.
The following are important reminders for motorists:
- Slow down in residential areas, school zones, and playgrounds.
- Stop when a school bus has red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
- Follow the directions of school crossing guards.
- If dropping off a child at school, do so in the designated drop off location and ensure the child exits the vehicle on the side away from traffic.
By working together and following traffic laws, we can help ensure the safety of students, families, and all road users throughout the school year.
