On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, as a result of DNA analysis, the Saint John Police identified the body discovered on September 1, 2023, as a 50-year-old Saint John man.
At the request of the family, the Saint John Police will not be releasing the name of the deceased.
Investigators do not believe that the circumstances of death are criminal in nature.
The Saint John Police sends our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased at this most difficult time.
The Saint John Police Major Crime Unit, in cooperation with the Coroner’s Office, are investigating the discovery of a body along the Saint John River.
It is reported that:
On Friday, September 1, 2023, at approximately 1:00p.m., emergency crews responded to a report that fishermen had located a body on the Saint John River.
On arrival, emergency personnel confirmed that the person was deceased. Forensic Services and the Coroner were called to the scene to investigate. An autopsy will be subsequently performed.
The Major Crime Unit, in cooperation with the Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate.
