The Saint John Police will be conducting an impaired driving campaign during the Canada Day long weekend between Friday, June 30, 2023, and Sunday, July 2, 2023. Through education and enforcement, the focus of the campaign is to save lives and reduce injuries caused by impaired driving.
During this campaign, traffic management officers will target offenses under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Motor Vehicle Act.
According to statistics, every day, on average, 4 Canadians are killed and 175 are injured in impairment-related crashes. It is estimated between 1,250 and 1,500 people are killed and more than 63,000 are injured each year in Canada in impairment-related crashes (Madd Canada, 2022)
