Crime Prevention: Theft of Parcels

Share:

Many of our citizens are taking advantage of the convenience of home delivery for packages and parcels. However, this convenience is also being exploited by the criminal element who are seeking opportunities to steal unattended deliveries.

Parcels that are delivered may sit for hours unattended. They are often left on doorsteps, in mailboxes, or in other visible and accessible locations which makes them an easy target for thieves.

Over the past two weeks, there has been an increase in thefts of unattended parcels in the Saint John area.

To assist in preventing such occurrences, residents are reminded to:

-have a visible security camera on your porch
-leave instructions to conceal the package
-use a porch lock box
-follow package tracking
-require a signature for delivery
-request deliveries to a pick-up location
-have a neighbour receive your package

The Saint John Police encourages you to use these tips to assist in the prevention of such crimes and to report any suspicious activity.

Together a safe, secure, healthy community
