CUPE Local 486 Police Update on Negotiations

Share:

The Saint John Board of Police Commissioners were advised by CUPE Local 486 effective 6:00 a.m. this morning that our inside employees, including Public Safety Communication Center employees (911 Operators) with the Saint John Police were engaging in strike activity.

We want to ensure the public that we have activated a contingency plan taking all necessary steps to ensure continuity of service and protection of our citizens.

Yesterday we asked CUPE Local 486 to return to the bargaining table to reach a mutual resolve specifically for our 911 Operators.

Late yesterday afternoon the Saint John Board of Police Commissioners provided CUPE Local 486 with a proposal to have the 911 Operators remain on the job as essential workers and have their wages independently arbitrated as is the case with our police officers. Unfortunately, this offer was also rejected.

The Saint John Police Force would like to thank the public for their patience.
