The Saint John Police, in cooperation with the Saint John Fire Department, are investigating a fire that led to the death of an individual.
It is reported that:
On Thursday, January 1, 2026, at approximately 10:25 a.m., emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Guilford Street in Saint John.
The Saint John Fire Department worked diligently to control and extinguish the fire; however, the building sustained severe damage.
During fire suppression operations, a 59-year-old male was located deceased.
The Saint John Police Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services, and New Brunswick Coroner Services were called to the scene to investigate.
Provincial fire investigators, at the request of the Saint John Fire Department, are investigating the cause of the fire jointly with the Saint John Police. Further details will be released as the investigation permits.
