(Update 2) Police Operation – Duke Street West

Update 2: April 26, 2023, 8:17 p.m.

On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, a search warrant was executed in connection with this investigation and a shotgun along with additional evidence was seized from the property on Duke Street West.  

A 32-year-old man who had been arrested on April 25, 2023, appeared in court on April 26, 2023, charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, carless use of a firearm, and unsafe storage of a firearm. He was remanded to custody and scheduled to return to court on April 27, 2023, for a bail hearing.

Three other individuals arrested on April 25, 2023, were released from custody; a 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were arrested for weapons offences and released from custody on undertakings to return to court on July 25, 2023. A 64-year-old man was released without charges.

The Major Crime Unit continues their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Update: April 25, 2023 6:23 p.m.

The police operation on Duke Street West has concluded. Four persons were taken into custody. No injuries were reported.

There will be a continued police presence in the area, while Major Crime continues to investigate; however, residents in the area are no longer asked to remain inside.

April 25, 2023 4:25 p.m.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired inside a building on Duke Street West.

Officers are on scene. Building is contained by police. One person in custody.

Traffic is blocked on Duke Street between Ludlow Street and Market Place. Residents in this block are asked to remain inside.
