Police Operation Grandview Ave (Concluded)

Update: 7:02 p.m. 

On May 11, 2025, at approximately 3:47 p.m., the Saint John Police responded to the 1600 block of Grandview Avenue for a person in crisis fighting with the neighbours.  

It is alleged that: 

-a 48-year-old man believed to be intoxicated attempted to assault and threaten a neighbour. 

-he returned to his home where he was threatening self-harm and refusing to cooperate with police.  

Officers contained the immediate area and began to negotiate with the suspect. 

Members of Patrol Services, Canine, and negotiators responded to the scene.  

At approximately 6:18 p.m., the suspect was arrested for assault and uttering threats outside the home and remains in police custody. 

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident.  

Police continue to investigate. Traffic on Grandview Avenue is now open to the public.

There is currently a police operation in the 1600 block of Grandview Ave. Police have the scene contained and are negotiating with a person in crisis. 

The following streets are closed:  

Grandview Ave between Hickey Road and McLaughlin Road are closed to through traffic.  

There is no threat to public safety; however, residents in the immediate area are asked to remain inside their homes while police continue their operation. 

It is reported that: 

  •  On May 11, 2025, at 3:47 p.m., patrol officers responded to a call for a person in crisis on Grandview Ave. 

  • Upon arrival police located a male and have been negotiating with him. 

At this time, the situation does not meet the criteria for Alert Ready. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
