Update#2 – Police Operation – Robbery and Weapons Investigation

Update: April 21, 2023, 1:38 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the Saint John Police responded to a robbery that occurred in the area of Sewell Street.

It is alleged that:

A taxi driver was assaulted during an attempted robbery at gunpoint in the area of Sewell Street. He sustained a non-life threating injury, but he was able to leave the scene and call police. The Major Crime Unit was called to investigate.

On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, a 32-year-old man was arrested for robbery in connection with the investigation. He appeared in court on Thursday, April 20, 2023, and was remanded to jail until April 24, 2023, for a bail hearing.

On Thursday, April 20, 2023, at approximately 9:40 a.m., as a result of the ongoing investigation, the Major Crime Unit with the assistance of the Emergency Tactical Services, the Street Crime Integrated Enforcement Unit (I.E.U.), Community Engagement Unit, Patrol Services and K9 from the Department of Justice and Public Safety, executed a high-risk search warrant at a residence on Kingfisher Road. During the search, the following exhibits were seized:

Mossberg .22 rifle
Remington 30-06 rifle
Marlin 30-30 rifle
MCP air pistol
Silver air pistol
Ammunition

Three persons were taken into custody; a 35-year-old man was held in custody and appeared in court on Friday, April 21, 2023, charged with unsafe storage of a firearm. He was released to return to court on May 23, 2023. A 44-year-old woman was arrested for weapons offences and a 37-year-old man was arrested for weapons offences and breach of probation. Both were released from custody to return to court on July 13, 2023.

The Integrated Enforcement Unit (I.E.U.) currently consists of officers from the Saint John Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Kennebecasis Regional Police Force, and New Brunswick Justice and Public Safety.

Update: April 20, 2023, 11:05 a.m.

The police operation on Kingfisher Road has concluded. Three people have been taken into custody and police remain on scene. All streets are now open and residents are no longer asked to remain in their homes.

No injuries have been reported. The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate.

Police are executing a search warrant on Kingfisher Road in the Birdland Trailer Park. Officers including the Emergency Tactical Services on are on site.

The following streets are closed:

Majors Brook Drive between the entrance to Parkway Mall and Consumers Drive, Sandpiper Road and Kingfisher Road

Residents on Kingfisher Road and Robin Court are asked to remain inside their residences.
