Police Seek Witnesses After Firearm Discharged – King Street East

The Saint John Police are seeking witnesses after a firearm was discharged in the area of King Street East.

It is reported that:

On Saturday, January 20, 2023, at approximately 3:22 a.m., police responded to a disturbance outside of a residential building in the 100-block of King Street East.

It was alleged that a shot was fired during the disturbance resulting in a number of people and at least two vehicles fleeing the area, including a white Volkswagen Jetta and a Black Nissan Versa.  

Police located and stopped the Nissan Versa nearby. Four occupants were arrested and a loaded handgun was seized from the vehicle.

A 26-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, discharging a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. They were both released from custody on an undertaking to appear in court on May 2, 2024.

A 21-year-old woman was found to be on parole and arrested for breaching the conditions of release. She was returned to jail.  

A 19-year-old man was released without any charges at this time.

No physical injuries were reported to police.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses, including the occupants of the white Volkswagen Jetta, or anyone in the area that has video footage of the incident at the time it occurred.
