Police seek Witnesses and Video Footage in Assault Investigation – Thorne Avenue

The Saint John Police are seeking witnesses and video footage in connection with an altercation that took place at an encampment in the 100-block of Thorne Ave.

It is reported that:

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., a patrol officer with the Saint John Police observed a man stumbling out onto Thorne Ave. The officer approached the man and learned that he had been assaulted with a chemical irritant.

Additional officers arrived on scene and found a woman at a nearby encampment where it is believed the incident took place. She was also contaminated with a chemical irritant. It is believed that they were both contaminated during the same incident and that the suspects were known to the victims.

Both individuals were treated by paramedics at scene and then transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate. Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area that has video surveillance or cell phone video of the incident at the time it occurred.
