Update 3: December 11, 2023, 3:23 p.m.
On Thursday, December 7, 2023, at approximately 11:14 a.m., the Saint John Police responded to a report that armed persons entered a residence in the 100 block of Alma Street near the intersection of Park Avenue.
It was reported that:
Two men were allegedly seen exiting a BMW and entering the residence carrying what was described as a long rifle and a handgun.
Based on the intelligence known to officers, there were concerns for officer and public safety.
As a result, the residence was contained until Emergency Tactical Services and negotiators could safely negotiate the occupants of the residence out of the house pending a search warrant.
Four persons were initially arrested for possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose. Three were later released without charges pending further investigation. A 35-year-old man was held in custody on an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant for failing to attend court, assault causing bodily harm, and breach of probation.
On Friday, December 8, 2023, the Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant on the residence. During the search three imitation handguns, one imitation rifle and .22 caliber ammunition were seized. The investigation is ongoing.

Update: 2023-12-07 @ 3:46 p.m.
Police have arrested four individuals from the residence for weapons offences. The area has been deemed safe.
Nearby residents are no longer required to shelter in place. All streets are now open to traffic.
The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate. Further details to follow.

The police operation is still ongoing. Members of the Emergency Tactical Services and Patrol Services have the residence contained. Negotiators are communicating with those inside the residence.
Park Avenue is now closed to traffic between Bellevue Street and Beacon Street. Residents in this area are asked to shelter in place.
