Stay Safe During Graduation

Graduation season is a time to acknowledge growth, honour hard work, and is a springboard for future endeavours.  The Saint John Police wish to remind students and their families during this time of celebrations, that safety must remain a top priority.  Graduation often involves parties without adult supervision and the likelihood of underage drinking, drug use, and risky behaviour increases significantly. This can raise the chances of accidents, injuries, and even criminal charges.

The following are some important reminders for graduates and their families:

  • Know the dangers and make smart choices; you want this to be a celebration to remember for the right reasons, not due to a tragedy.

  • Drink responsibly; underage drinking is illegal and dangerous.  Anyone serving alcohol to someone under the age of 19 is committing an offence under the New Brunswick Liquor Control Act.

  • Have a plan to get home safely; do not get behind the wheel if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  Plan your ride with someone sober before the party.

  • Stay alert; stick with friends, have your phone charged, and avoid isolated or poorly lit areas.  If something does not feel right, trust your instincts and go to a safe place.  Do not hesitate to call 911 if you have an emergency and need help.

“Graduation and prom season bring great anticipation and excitement.  An opportunity to create unforgettable memories with family and friends.  One bad decision can have devastating consequences.  Please make smart choices, look out for each other, and enjoy these times to the fullest.  Your future is bright.  We want you to keep it that way.  Stay safe.” Chief R.M. Bruce

The Saint John Police would like to congratulate the classes of 2025 that are graduating and wish them all the best in future undertakings.

Together a safe, secure, healthy community
