Sudden Death Investigation – Harbour Passage Area

The Saint John Police Major Crime Unit, in cooperation with the Coroner’s Office, are investigating a sudden death following the discovery of a body along the Saint John River.

It is reported that:

On Saturday, August 5, 2023, at approximately 8:21 a.m., emergency crews responded to a report that a cyclist had located a body on the shoreline of Harbour Passage near the bottom of Bentley Street.

On arrival, emergency personnel confirmed that the person was deceased. Forensic Services and the Coroner were called to the scene to investigate. The deceased was transported to hospital where an autopsy was subsequently performed.

It is believed that the deceased body had washed ashore from the Saint John River.

As a result of further investigation, the deceased was identified as a 42-year-old man. At the request of the family, the identity of the deceased will not be released.

The Major Crime Unit, in cooperation with the Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death; however, it is not believed to be criminal in nature.

The Saint John Police offers our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased individual.
