The Saint John Police has requested a SiRT investigation after a collision between a police vehicle and a person on City Road in Saint John.
It is reported that:
On Friday, January 19, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., a marked police vehicle being operated by a police officer was travelling westbound on City Road when it was involved in a collision with a 54-year-old man.
The man was transported to and remains in hospital with serious injuries.
No one else was physically injured during the incident. City Road was closed to traffic for several hours while traffic reconstruction processed the scene.
The Saint John Police are fully cooperating with the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) who have assumed responsibility of the investigation. The officer involved will remain on active duty pending the investigation.
SiRT is an investigative agency, independent of the police, whose mandate is to investigate matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and domestic violence or other matters of significant public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer.
