On August 12, 2026, the Saint John Police Force, in partnership with the New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety, has completed a two-day enforcement initiative focused on identifying unsafe vehicles and ensuring compliance among taxi operators in Saint John.
As a result of this joint operation on unsafe vehicles and taxi compliance:
- 31 taxis were inspected;
- Two taxi drivers were found to be operating without a valid taxi driver’s licence;
- 18 taxis failed the spot inspections and were immediately placed out of service pending repairs; and
- Eight vehicles were towed due to safety-related deficiencies.
Taxi operators are reminded that maintaining all required licences and credentials is essential to legally provide transportation services to the public.
Motorists are also reminded of their responsibility to keep their vehicles in safe operating condition. Proper vehicle maintenance helps prevent safety risks for drivers, passengers, and all road users.
The Saint John Police Force will continue to conduct regular, targeted traffic enforcement throughout the city with the goal of improving safety for all road users and educating motorists about traffic laws to reduce serious injuries and fatal collisions.
