The Saint John Police will be conducting a Vehicle Safety Campaign on Wednesday April 24, 2024. Ensuring that your vehicle is in proper working condition is not only crucial for your safety but also for the safety of others on the road. Safety inspections ensure that vehicles comply with established safety standards and regulations.

The purpose of this campaign is to promote road safety by identifying and addressing any potential hazards or violations related to vehicle maintenance and compliance with safety regulations. Inspections may include checks for valid registration, working lights and signals, tire condition, breaks and other safety-related components.

Through education and enforcement, Traffic Management Officers will target areas within the city, with a focus on raising awareness about the importance of vehicle maintenance and safety. There will be checkpoints and roaming patrols at various locations throughout the day.

What’s the law?
Under the Motor Vehicle Act of New Brunswick, the operator of a vehicle is in violation if they:
-Disobey an order for inspection or repair (Fine$292.50)
-Operate a vehicle unlawfully (with a rejection sticker) (Fine$292.50)
-Display the inspection sticker for another vehicle (Fine$292.50)
-No current inspection certificate (Fine$172.50)

Failure to comply with vehicle safety standards may result in fines or other enforcement actions. Additionally, vehicles found to have serious safety deficiencies may be subject to immediate action, including impoundment, to ensure the safety of all road users.

Together a safe, secure, healthy community.
