On Friday, August 30, 2024, at approximately 2:41 a.m., the Saint John Police responded to a report of an armed man experiencing a mental health crisis in the 100-block of Read Head Road.

It is reported that:

While responding to the call, information was received that the man was in the house with a woman and that there were allegedly several firearms in the residence.

Based on the intelligence known to officers, there were concerns for officer and public safety.

As a result, police moved in on the residence and contained it. As Emergency Tactical Services arrived on scene to safely negotiate the occupants out of the residence, a 48-year-old man surrendered himself to police, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

At approximately 4:32 a.m., the incident was resolved and there was no further threat to the public.

The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate. Police remain on scene and plan to execute a public safety warrant.

The man has been taken to the hospital for further assessment and treatment.

The Saint John Police would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation.
