Drug Recognition Experts (DRE)

Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) are police officers trained to recognize drug impairment in drivers suspected of driving under the influence of drugs. DREs are trained to observe, interview, and evaluate drivers suspected of being impaired due to drugs.

They perform physical tests such as checking the driver’s pulse, pupil size, and checking for evidence of drug use. DREs also provide expert testimony in court cases involving drug-impaired drivers.

Through their training and expertise, DREs serve an important role in keeping our roads safe and protecting citizens from drug-impaired drivers.
