After an internal review, the Saint John Police has requested the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) to investigate an incident relating to a call for service.

It is reported that:

On July 5, 2025, at approximately 2:17 a.m., Saint John Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on the Harbour Bridge. A brief pursuit with one of vehicles involved in the accident occurred which eventually came to a stop in the area of Main Street North.

Multiple officers engaged with the adult male driver who was taken into custody. The male was transported to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The Saint John Police contacted SiRT, who has assumed responsibility of the investigation, as the incident fit their mandate. The officer who is the subject of SiRT’s investigation will remain on active duty pending the result.

As this is an ongoing investigation, we will not be providing any further details or commenting on this incident.

SiRT is an investigative agency, independent of the police, whose mandate is to investigate matters in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick that involve death, severe injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of public interest that may have arisen from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty.

“We are confident that SiRT will conduct a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation. We are committed to maintaining public trust and confidence.” Chief R.M. Bruce
