The Saint John Police have arrested a 34-year-old woman in connection with an attempted abduction investigation of two children.
It is alleged that:
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a child was riding a bicycle in the area of Eglington Court when the suspect attempted to take the child and was unsuccessful. A family member of the child was then threatened by the suspect.
Another child who was in the vicinity of this incident was physically grabbed by the suspect. A family member of the child intervened and was able to rescue the child. The child did not sustain any physical injuries. In the process, the family member was threatened by the suspect.
Police located and arrested the suspect within close proximity to where the incidents occurred. She was subsequently charged and held in custody for two counts of attempted abduction of a person under the age of 14, two counts of assault, two counts of uttering threats, assaulting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, and possession of a schedule I substance believed to be methamphetamine.
The suspect attended provincial court on August 5, 2025, where she was remanded into custody for a 5-day fitness assessment and will return for a court appearance on August 11, 2025, for a bail hearing.
