Arrest in Traffic Stop

The Saint John Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in possession of a stolen handgun following a traffic stop.

It is reported that:

On Sunday, August 13, 2023, at approximately 11:54 p.m., police responded to reports of a suspicious person parked in the area of St Paul Street.

On arrival, the suspect vehicle was no longer in the area, but later located by an officer in a nearby drive thru.

Officers proceeded to check the driver who attempted to conceal what they believed to be cocaine. The 27-year-old driver was arrested and found to be wearing a bullet proof vest.

During a search of the vehicle, an officer located a loaded handgun that was later determined to be stolen.

On Monday, August 14, 2023, the accused appeared in court on the following charges:

  1. Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle;
  2. Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  3. Unsafe storage of a firearm; and,
  4. Possession of a stolen handgun.

He was remanded to jail and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, August 17, 2023, for a bail hearing.
